Over the last 25 years, the Brecknock Art Trust has supported the development of the art collection at the museum and gallery in Brecon. An exhibition celebrating this nationally significant collection, curated by David Moore, opens on 1st February.
The collection illustrates the breadth of work inspired by Brecknockshire, including early work by Sir Richard Colt Hoare and Thomas Horner. There are important works by David Jones, Shirley Jones and Eric Ravilious. A section on industrial communities includes work by Josef Herman, while livestock is a theme explored by artists as varied in their approach as Iwan Bala, Radovan Kraguly and Sally Matthews. Abstraction is represented by works by John Uzzell Edwards, Ivor Davies and Mary Lloyd Jones.
The exhibition runs until 1st June and is accompanied by a book by David Moore, Championing Artists in Wales, 25 Years of the Brecknock Art Trust.
There will be an opportunity to learn more about the collection at a Study Day on 22nd February.
