GENTRY FAMILIES AND THEIR POETS IN LATE-MEDIEVAL BRECON
The fourteenth to sixteenth centuries were the high point of Welsh praise poetry to the families of local gentry, the uchelwyr.
This lecture traces some of the history of the lordship of Brecon and its neighbours through the poetry composed to its networks of gentry families, including the Herberts, Games, and Vaughans.
Our lecturer, Professor Helen Fulton is Chair in Medieval Literature at the University of Bristol. She has published widely on medieval Welsh literature and its links with English and European literary traditions.
Following the lecture, there will be an opportunity to meet Professor Fulton at a reception upstairs (Cash bar)
