David Jones poetry and harp concert

The Brecknock Society organised a special poetry and harp concert at Llansantffraed Church on 16th July 2023 on the writings of artist and poet David Jones to accompany the major exhibition of his artwork on display at y Gaer, Brecon.   Local poet Christopher Meredith and literary critic Hilary Davies shared the readings which were interwoven with traditional Welsh harp music played by accomplished young Brecon harpist Martha Powell. 

 The sell-out audience of 90 were spellbound by the readings which reflected the part-Welsh artist’s experiences as a soldier with the Royal Welch Fusiliers in the 1st World War as well as his knowledge and love of Welsh myth and landscape.

 Following presentations and applause for the performers, Mervyn Bramley, who had organised the concert for the Brecknock Society, thanked the Mid Wales Music Trust for their generous sponsorship and the Llansantffraed Church team for the excellent interval refreshments.
