An Enjoyable Visit to Caebach Chapel
Members of the Society recently visited Caebach Chapel, Llandrindod Wells. They were warmly welcomed by Sue Cole, friend of Addoldai Cymru, the Welsh Religious Buildings Trust.
Members were treated to a short film about the history of the chapel and some contextual and, as always, stimulating, background from William Gibbs.
Caebach Chapel was built in 1717 at the instigation of Thomas Jones (1675-1745), second son of David Jones of Trefonnen. The chapel was rebuilt in 1804 in the Vernacular style of the long-wall entry type, on the original site.
The chapel contains a wall tablet completed in 1810 commemorating several generations of the Jones family, several of whom are interred inside the chapel, including Thomas Jones the artist, (1742 – 1803).
Members enjoyed tea and Welsh cakes before departure.
